Unite Oregon is seeking an experienced, culturally responsive Communications Director to develop, coordinate and implement a statewide communications strategy. Duties include: develop social justice messaging campaigns to guide both digital and direct engagement, oversee press communications, assist Executive Director to streamline communications, coordinate with organizing team on dynamic responses to current events, collaborate with the development team on fundraising campaigns and events. The ideal candidate has strong writing skills, experience with digital media campaigns and content production, knowledge of Oregon’s political landscape and ability to address multiple audiences, public speaking ability and skill in collaborating with a diverse organizing team. In addition, the successful candidates must have the ability and willingness to learn new systems, experience with fast-paced media environment, understand racial justice messaging, and be movement-oriented.

Position Title: Communications Director
Duration: Full Time, Ongoing

Compensation: $55,000-65,000 per year depending on experience; generous and progressive benefits including medical and dental care 100% of premiums paid by Unite Oregon, paid wellness leave, vacation, flex time, and personal days off.

Position Responsibilities

Organizational Communication Coordination 

  • Work with leadership to develop and implement a public narrative and strategic communications calendar
  • Ensure timelines are met; direct team to meet communications targets 
  • Work with Chapter staff to facilitate messaging needs at the program level
  • Support Development and Fundraising team

Local and Statewide Media Coordination 

  • Write press releases with quick response time
  • Draft opinion editorials on behalf of Unite Oregon members for media outlets
  • Develop talking points for campaigns
  • Track national, state, and local news to gather information pertinent to Unite Oregon’s work

Executive Director Communications

  • Streamline Unite Oregon’s Executive Director communications
  • Develop messaging, talking points, op-ed pieces, strategic communications to members, funders, electeds and stakeholders
  • Work closely with Executive Director to frame messaging for campaigns and programs

Member Communication 

  • Coordinate and edit regular e-news to email lists: statewide and regional
  • Create flyers and messages for events and other member-related programs

Social Media 

  • Coordinate with organizers and Communications staff to schedule posts on Unite Oregon’s Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts
  • Develop digital media strategies to support campaigns, projects, major events, etc.
  • Oversee social media analytics with monthly reporting, and strategically respond to trends

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 2 – 4 Years professional work experience in Communications role 
  • Management experience
  • Commitment to racial justice
  • Fundraising Communications experience
  • Ability to work with a diverse, multicultural staff, board, membership, and partners of various backgrounds
  • Online advocacy, and digital media campaign management 
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Highly organized, serious attention to detail and adherence to deadlines
  • Graphic design skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in, or interest in working in an organization that is primarily staffed by and serves immigrant, refugee, and Black, Indigenous, People of Color
  • Strong facilitation skills
  • Bilingual
